Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath announced on Wednesday that Bhadohi district will be again renamed as Sant Ravidas Nagar, it will be like coming back to the original name. In 2014, Samajwadi Party government changed its name from Sant Ravidas Nagar to Bhadohi. While speaking at the BJP’s Samrasta Sankalp Abhiyan and the 650th birth anniversary celebrations of Sant Guru Ravidas Maharaj in Varanasi, the CM said that government will soon begin the name changing process to its earlier name.

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath announced the Bhadohi district will revert to its original name, Sant Ravidas Nagar, reversing a 2014 decision by the Samajwadi Party government during Sant Ravidas’s 650th birth anniversary event in Varanasi.
CM Calls 2014 Name Change an ‘Injustice’
CM Yogi said that Sant Ravidas Nagar was originally named after the Sant Guru Ravidas Maharaj but the previous SP government changed its name doing an injustice to the people of district. He said that BJP government will make sure to change its to original name by administrative process.
Protection for Statues and Parks
The CM also announced that their government will protect the statues of Sant Guru Ravidas Maharaj, Maharishi Valmiki, Dr B.R. Ambedkar and other icons of social justice. The statues that are not covered will get protective covers, while parks named after them will get boundaries to cover. He also said that funds have already been released.
Schools for Construction Workers’ Children
He also stated that Atal Residential Schools are functioning in 18 divisional headquarters for children of construction workers. He also made an announcement that every district will have a residential Chief Minister Composite School which will be dedicated to Sant Guru Ravidas Maharaj.
Opposition Targeted Over Renaming
The CM also criticized the previous government by saying, “Those whose ideals are Babur and Aurangzeb will never accept this because they divide society. Those who unite people name places after great personalities.”
The Bhadohi district which was earlier named Sant Ravidas Nagar was renamed on 6 December 2014 after Akhilesh Yadav led government approved a proposal.
