The Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has finally speak up about the Air India flight turbulence incident took place on Tuesday. Naidu on Wednesday shared fresh details about the incident that took place in Air India flight AI2379 from Phuket to Delhi. He said that the incident lasted around four to five minutes and he met with the passengers and their recounted events made him understand the sequence of events.

Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu reported Air India flight AI2379 from Phuket to Delhi experienced severe turbulence for 4-5 minutes, causing spinal injuries to crew members, as the DGCA investigates the mid-air incident.

He also praised cabin crew for helping passengers amidst the emergency situation and suffered multiple injuries. However, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is investigating the incident.

Passengers Recalled Four to Five Minutes of Turbulence

While talking about the incident, Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said that he personally met with the passengers and interacted with them in the hospital.

“Yesterday when I met them in the hospital, I tried to interact with them and ask them. So they all kind of remember that there was turbulence which was observed in the flight for some time…probably for four to five minutes. And it is during that time that they faced a certain difficulty inside the plane,” Naidu said.

The minister said that the airport medical team immediately attended the passengers when they landed safely in Delhi. Those who required further medical treatment were admitted to Medanta Hospital and Fortis Hospital.

Crew Members Suffered Neck and Tailbone Injuries

Naidu also shared that cabin crew members have suffered spinal injuries and are under medical observations.

“In terms of the injuries of the crew members, a couple of them have a spinal injury near the tailbone and also near the neck. So the doctors are under continuous surveillance on them. And they have advised that they be under rest and surveillance for some time. So we are taking, according to the advice of doctors, proper support is being provided to them in the hospital,” he said.

Naidu also said that the government is making sure to give all the necessary medical treatment and support to the injured.

Minister Praises Crew for Continuing Duty

Aviation Minister also praised the cabin crew members for managing the passengers despite in this critical situation.

“Four crew members were admitted to Fortis, where I personally visited along with ministry and DGCA teams. We interacted with the crew members…they have been very brave even after that incident that happened for five minutes mid-air and they were proven to have certain injuries…This plane had to travel for one more hour. From that time and even through that hour the crew members provided all the assistance that was required,” he said.

DGCA to Determine Cause of Incident

The minister confirmed that DGCA has taken the possession of the flight and its flight recorded, also cockpit voice recorder as a part of investigation.

“The plane, the moment it landed, was taken to a separate hangar. The data recorder, the voice recorder, is in the possession of DGCA. They will thoroughly investigate how and why this incident happened. And only when we have the facts in front of us, will we be able to make it public,” Naidu said.

He said that the government will wait till the investigation doesn’t get completed.
