The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Saturday extended the closure of entry and exit gates at 45 metro stations until 10 pm on October 10, citing security arrangements for the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest in the national capital. The stations were earlier scheduled to reopen at 6 pm.

The DMRC extended the closure of 45 Delhi Metro stations until 10 pm on October 10th, citing security for a CJP protest against the Chief Election Commissioner over alleged voter-list manipulation.
DMRC Extends Metro Restrictions By Four Hours
In a revised service advisory shared on X, the DMRC said the affected stations had remained closed since 9 pm on Friday due to security concerns.
“The 45 Metro stations, closed since 09:00 PM on Friday due to security reasons will continue to remain closed till 10:00 PM tonight (10th October). Further the situation will be reviewed by the security agencies and necessary updates shall be shared accordingly.”

The metro authority said further decisions would depend on a review by security agencies. The restrictions affect several important stations, including Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Kashmere Gate, Patel Chowk, Janpath, Mandi House, ITO and New Delhi.
CJP Protest Leads To Heavy Security Deployment
The extended restrictions came as security personnel prevented protesters from reaching the designated protest site at Jantar Mantar. The planned gathering subsequently spread to streets, intersections and alternative meeting points across Delhi.
Authorities also barricaded roads, diverted traffic, restricted metro access and halted the arrival of express and mail trains at key railway stations in the capital to control crowd movement.
Why Are 45 Delhi Metro Stations Closed?
The CJP called for a demonstration demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. The party accused him of planning voter-list manipulation during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and alleged irregularities involving Form 6, which is used to register voters.
On Friday, the DMRC reduced the number of stations facing entry and exit restrictions from 57 to 45 following a request from Delhi Police. The move was aimed at addressing concerns about crowds gathering near sensitive locations.
Under the earlier advisory, interchange facilities remained available at the affected stations, except at New Delhi metro station. Commuters were advised to check the latest DMRC updates before travelling.
