In one of the latest developments, Delhi police has begun taking action against social media posts that allegedly hold offensive remarks against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the month long agitation led by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP).
Following the month-long Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest, Delhi Police has issued notices to social media platforms to remove offensive posts targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned and other CJP demands were accepted.
The move comes just a day after the protest officially ended following the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
According to reports, police have sent notices to several social media platforms, asking them to remove objectionable content linked to the protest. Authorities are also continuing to monitor online activity and are issuing fresh notices whenever new posts are found.
Police Ask Social Media Platforms to Remove Content
Police have flagged multiple videos, comments and posts for allegedly using crude and insulting language against the Prime Minister. Informing that most of the identified posts has already been taken down after the notices were sent to social media companies.
So far, Delhi Police has not publicly disclosed the number of notices issued or whether any criminal cases have been registered in connection with the online posts.
Protest Ends After Government Accepts Key Demands
The police action comes shortly after the CJP announced the end of its protest, which lasted for more than a month.
The agitation was withdrawn after the Centre agreed to additional demands raised by the organisation, apart from the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan as Union Education Minister.
Soon after Pradhan stepped down, the Abhijeet Dipke-led CJP expanded its list of
demands. These included:
- ₹1 crore compensation for the families of NEET aspirants who died by suicide.
- Withdrawal of FIRs against student protesters.
- A public apology from the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and police personnel involved in the protest.
‘Sansad Chalo March’ Intensified the Standoff
What intensified the CJP protest was the ‘Sansad Chalo March’ on July 20, that also marked the first day of the Monsoon Session in Parliament. The police used tear gas shells and clarified out baton charges after the march turned tense.
Videos showing protesters being dragged and beaten by security personnel quickly spread across social media, leading to widespread public debate over the handling of the demonstration.
