The Election Commission on Saturday ordered a fresh round of voting in West Bengal’s Falta constituency following reports of violence during polling. Clashes broke out between supporters of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), disrupting the voting process and raising serious concerns over the integrity of the poll.

According to officials, tensions escalated at multiple booths, with both parties accusing each other of attempting to influence the outcome through alleged vote tampering and intimidation. The situation led to unrest in the area, prompting intervention from security personnel.

The Election Commission ordered a repoll in West Bengal’s Falta constituency following reports of violence between TMC and BJP supporters during polling, aiming to ensure a fair electoral process.

Taking note of the disturbances and complaints received, the Election Commission decided to annul the polling in affected areas and called for a repoll on May 21 to ensure a free and fair electoral process. Authorities stated that additional security arrangements would be put in place during the fresh voting to prevent any recurrence of violence.

Both the TMC and the BJP have continued to trade allegations over the incident, each claiming that their workers and supporters were targeted. The repoll is expected to be conducted under tighter supervision, with the Commission aiming to restore voter confidence in the constituency.
