Vijay-led TVK scored a sweeping victory in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections held on April 23, winning 108 of 234 seats. The result pushed the incumbent DMK, led by M K Stalin, down to 59 seats, while one contest in Tiruppattur drew national attention due to a single-vote margin.
Other parties also carved out space in the new House. The opposition AIADMK secured 47 seats, with allies PMK taking 4, while the BJP and AMMK gained one seat each.

Close finishes highlight voter engagement in Tamil Nadu Assembly elections
Beyond the overall figures, several nail-biting finishes defined the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Fifteen constituencies recorded winning margins below 1,000 votes.
The most striking outcome came in Tiruppattur. TVK candidate Seenivasa Sethupathy R defeated DMK candidate Periakaruppan KR by just one vote. The closest contest came in Tiruppattur, where SeeniVasa Sethupathy R of the TVK won by just one vote over Periakaruppan KR of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

Other constituencies also produced tense counts. In Veppanahalli, DMK’s Srinivasan P.S. edged AIADMK’s Munusamy K.P. by 138 votes. In Kanniyakumari, AIADMK’s Thalavai Sundaram N beat DMK’s Mahesh R by 214 votes, while in Polur, TVK’s Abishek R defeated DMDK’s Saravanan P by 227 votes.
The trend continued as AIADMK’s Palanisamy S took Tirukkoyilur, defeating TVK’s Vijay R Baranibalaaji by 285 votes. In Paramathi-Velur, AIADMK’s Sekar S won by 308 votes against DMK’s Moorthiy K S. In Kulithalai, DMK’s Suriyanur A. Chandran prevailed over TVK’s G. Balasubramani by 579 votes.

More narrow margins followed. At Kumbakonam, TVK’s Vinoth defeated DMK’s Anbalagan G by 679 votes. In Palani, AIADMK’s Ravimanoharan K won over TVK’s Dr. Praveen Kumar M by 693 votes, while at Tindivanam, Vanni Arasu of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi secured victory against AIADMK’s Arjunan P by 734 votes.
The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections therefore delivered a strong mandate for TVK along with many closely fought seats.
