The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 was introduced in the Lok Sabha to strengthen measures against paper leaks, proposing fast-track courts, stricter punishments, and investigations completed within two months.

Soon after Union Minister Jitendra Singh introduced the bill, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House till 2 pm as Opposition members continued their protests. They demanded a response from the government over the police crackdown on students during the CJP-led July 20 protest march to Parliament.

The amendment seeks to strengthen the existing anti-paper leak law enacted two years ago. The move comes after more than a month of student protests over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak and related issues.

The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 proposes setting up fast-track courts in every state for speedy trials of those accused in paper leak cases. It also provides for stricter punishment for offenders.

According to the bill, investigations into paper leak cases must be completed within two months.
