Is YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, who was recently seen at the CJP protest in India, arrested by the Noida Police? The Uttar Pradesh police have denied the claims, describing the speculation as “false”.
In a post on X, the Police Commissionerate of Gautam Buddh Nagar said, “Some social media handles are circulating information/posts regarding ‘the arrest of Dhruv Rathee by Noida Police’. Uttar Pradesh Police have officially denied circulating claims and speculation regarding the arrest of YouTuber Dhruv Rathee by Noida Police, confirming the reports are false.

The police appealed to the public not to circulate misleading or unverified messages and urged people to check the authenticity of information before sharing it. The clarification comes days after the German-based YouTuber was reportedly detained at his residence in Sector 56, Gurugram, Haryana, before being released after around 18 hours. According to reports, the police took him into custody on Sunday ahead of a protest at Jantar Mantar, citing prohibitory orders in force at the time.

“Yes, he has been set free. His family members arrived to receive him at a crime branch office where he was kept detained,” Hindustan Times quoted a senior officer as saying.
“He was released after discussion with Delhi Police, and it was ensured that he won’t be a part of a group or mob trying to create law and order problems where prohibitory orders were already in force,” the officer added.
However, Rathee, who had taken part in a CJP protest in Bengaluru last week, accused the police of “kidnapping” him. According to a PTI report, he claimed that around 20 people had entered his house and taken him to different police stations. He also alleged that he was not allowed to contact his lawyer or access a phone for around 22 to 23 hours.
Noida, Uttar Pradesh: Former DGP Vikram Singh says, “There is a YouTuber named Dhruv Rathee, who is also said to have links with CJP. During an interview, he appealed to Bollywood actors to support him and oppose the Government of India. What Bollywood actors choose to do or not do is their responsibility, and I leave that to their conscience. However, Dhruv Rathee again appealed to police officers and personnel, as well as army officers and personnel, to support him and oppose the Government of India. It should be noted that there are specific laws prescribing severe punishment for such irresponsible and allegedly criminal appeals. If you appeal to police personnel to participate in such an anti-government campaign, the Police (Incitement to Disaffection) Act applies. In the case of the armed forces, Section 159 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the former Section 131 of the Indian Penal Code provide for life imprisonment or imprisonment for up to 10 years, along with a fine…”

The YouTuber also displayed his passport in a video, asserting that he is an Indian citizen.
Meanwhile, former Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Vikram Singh criticised Rathee over what he described as “irresponsible” appeals to the police and armed forces to rise up against the Indian government.
