The legal battle between actor Ravi Mohan, popularly known as Jayam Ravi, and his estranged wife Aarti has taken a fresh turn, with the Madras High Court refusing to grant any extension to a deadline it had previously set for the Chennai Family Court to decide on Aarti’s plea seeking interim maintenance for their children.

The High Court has directed the Family Court to hear and dispose of Aarti’s petition within two weeks, reiterating that the timeline already fixed by the court cannot be altered. As a result, a petition filed by Ravi Mohan seeking additional time for the Family Court proceedings was dismissed, according to reports in the Tamil media.

The Madras High Court refused to extend the deadline for the Chennai Family Court to decide Aarti’s interim maintenance plea for their children, dismissing actor Ravi Mohan’s petition and upholding the two-week timeframe.

The dispute comes amid the ongoing divorce proceedings between the couple, which are currently pending before the Chennai Family Court. In her latest petition, Aarti alleged that Ravi Mohan had not provided any financial support for their children since April 2025. According to her plea, the actor had failed to contribute towards essential expenses, including the children’s school fees and educational costs.

Claiming that her interim maintenance petition was not being taken up for hearing despite the urgency of the matter, Aarti moved the Madras High Court seeking judicial intervention. She requested that the Family Court be directed to expedite the proceedings and pass orders at the earliest.

Taking note of the request, the High Court had earlier instructed the Chennai Family Court to hear the interim maintenance application and issue appropriate orders within a period of two weeks. The directive was seen as a major relief for Aarti, who argued that the educational and welfare needs of the children required immediate attention.

However, the matter returned to the High Court after Ravi Mohan filed a fresh petition seeking an extension of the deadline imposed on the Family Court. The actor’s plea came up for hearing before Justice Abdul Quddhose.

During the proceedings, senior advocate J. Ravindran, appearing on behalf of Aarti, opposed the request for additional time. After hearing submissions from both sides, Justice Abdul Quddhose declined to interfere with the earlier order and dismissed Ravi Mohan’s petition, The Hindu reported.

The court made it clear that the timeline fixed for the Family Court’s consideration of the interim maintenance plea would remain unchanged. The judge also directed both parties to pursue their remedies before the Family Court, where the matter is now expected to be heard and decided within the stipulated period.

The latest development adds another chapter to the highly watched legal dispute involving the actor and his estranged wife. With the Family Court now under instructions to deliver its decision within two weeks, attention is likely to remain focused on the outcome of Aarti’s plea for interim financial support and educational expenses for the couple’s children.
