Jharkhand BJP leaders marked Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s death anniversary on Tuesday with floral tributes. The party said the removal of Article 370 matched goals linked to the Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder. Several events were held across the Kolhan region of the state, according to party leaders.

Leaders also referred to the circumstances of Mookerjee’s death in 1953. Mookerjee died in a Srinagar jail on the same date. The case remains unclear, with BJP leaders calling it a mystery. Mookerjee had been arrested after entering Jammu and Kashmir without a permit.
Article 370 and Syama Prasad Mookerjee tribute in Jamshedpur
In Jamshedpur, former Chief Minister Raghubar Das recalled Mookerjee’s stand on national unity. Das said Dr Mookerjee had demanded that “ek desh mein do vidhan, do pradhan, do nishan nahi chalenge\” in the country. Das described the line as rejecting two constitutions, two Prime Ministers and two flags.
Das also linked that position to later policy decisions. In a post on X, the senior BJP leader said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given concrete form to his proclamation by revoking Article 370. Das said Article 370 had given a special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
Syama Prasad Mookerjee tribute and Article 370 remarks in Chaibasa
At the party office in Chaibasa in West Singhbhum district, state BJP vice president Geeta Koda offered homage. Koda said Mookerjee’s life focused on national interest, cultural nationalism, and the idea of an undivided India. Koda also said the nation remained indebted to Mookerjee’s sacrifice, citing its influence on later generations.
Syama Prasad Mookerjee tribute and Article 370 context in Adityapur
Former chief minister Champai Soren paid tribute at Adityapur in Seraikela-Kharswan district. Soren said Mookerjee stood for nationalism, sacrifice, courage and politics based on principles. Soren added that Mookerjee devoted every moment to India’s unity, integrity, and honour.
Across the Kolhan region, the Jharkhand BJP used the anniversary programmes to repeat Mookerjee’s stated views on national unity. Party leaders linked those views to the decision to revoke Article 370. The tributes also highlighted Mookerjee’s 1953 jail death in Srinagar, which they said remains unexplained.
