Argentina’s star, the GOAT, and arguably World’s best footballer, Lionel Messi’s aspiration of winning yet another FIFA World Cup title was dashed when Argentina lost 1-0 to Spain. The FIFA World Cup Spain vs Argentina was played at the MetLife Stadium on Sunday.
However, when the final whistle blew, the emotion on Messi’s face was that of disappointment rather than anger. He remained motionless momentarily on the ground and received the medal with tears flowing down his cheeks.
Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 at MetLife Stadium on Sunday to win the FIFA World Cup, leaving Lionel Messi visibly upset and receiving a runner-up medal despite his tournament-high 8 goals and 4 assists.
Messi was visibly upset while receiving the runners-up medal. Argentina faced the possibility of losing yet another final since Messi had been the shining star throughout the whole tournament, scoring important goals, but the last match was not to end in his favor.
Only a few minutes from the first whistle, Spain dominated the match as Luis de la Fuente’s men never let Argentina settle.
Argentina hardly posed any problem for the Spaniards and remarkably had no shots on targets during the whole match as Spain had already made many attempts by the time Argentina made its first one.
Despite this sad finale, Messi still had a wonderful tournament with 8 goals and 4 assists.. Spain lifted the FIFA World Cup with a 1-0 victory, while Messi was left with another unforgettable World Cup memory.
