A 25-year-old woman was found dead inside her home in Guwahati after neighbours noticed a bad smell coming from the flat, that led police to found disturbing crime scene. According to police, Riya Talukdar Goswami was found dead at her residence in Basisthapur area, when investigators found her severed head from a refrigerator.
In Guwahati, 25-year-old Riya Talukdar Goswami was found dead in her home after neighbours reported a foul smell, leading police to discover her severed head in a refrigerator; her husband, Ramanujan Goswami, has surrendered and confessed to the killing.
Her husband Ramanjuan Goswami has surrendered to police and now he is being treated as prime accused. The investigation is going to know what led him to kill his wife.
Neighbours’ Complaint Leads Police To Flat
The case came to light on Sunday night when people living to nearby flats alerted authorities about the smell coming from residence. The police later entered the flat and found Riya’s partially decomposed body.
The police also found her severed head from inside a polythene bag that was kept in refrigerator. According to police her fingers were also cut off and a weapon suspected to be used to have been used in the crime was also recovered from the area.
Husband Surrenders As Probe Begins
Riya’s husband Ramanujan Goswami surrendered at Hatigaon Police Station and he was immediately taken into custody. Anurag Sharma, ADCP (East) of the Guwahati Police Commissionerate said Goswami is the prime accused and he has confessed to the killing.
The couple was married to for almost six months and were living happily together. Riya was a boutique worker and Goswami worked as a cab or app-based cab driver. Police is now investigating what led to Goswami killing his wife.
Forensic Evidence Could Establish Timeline
The Police confirmed that the murder must have occurred between 24 to 48 hours before the body was recovered, based on the condition of remains. Forensic teams have examined the blood evidence, fingerprints and other clues that can now reconstruct the sequence of events.
Riya’s body has been sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination. After the post-mortem and forensic findings, the police is expected to provide crucial evidence about the whole matter and timing of death.
