Mumbai: Three people were killed and one critically injured when a BMW crashed on Mumbai’s Coastal Road in the early hours of Sunday, September 20.

The accident occurred at around 5:20 am near Lotus Jetty, opposite Lala Lajpatrai College, as the BMW was driving from Marine Drive towards Haji Ali. Preliminary information suggests that the vehicle was speeding before the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle. The car then crashed and plunged from the elevated section of the road.

Three people, including Shanay Gajjal (21) and Dhirya Seth (17), died and one was critically injured when their BMW crashed off Mumbai’s Coastal Road near Lotus Jetty early Sunday, September 20, following a suspected loss of control due to speeding.

All four occupants of the car were taken to Nair Hospital after the crash, where doctors pronounced three of them dead, while the other was admitted to the trauma ward in critical condition.

The deceased have been identified as 21-year-old Shanay Gajjal and 17-year-old Dhirya Seth. The third victim, a man who appears to be around 25 years old, was not immediately known. The surviving occupant, an unidentified man aged around 20, sustained serious injuries and is being treated at the hospital.

Police have begun an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the crash, including what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

According to reports, the BMW was driving on the south Mumbai stretch of the Coastal Road when the accident occurred. The crash took place near the Lotus Jetty.

The incident has once again raised concerns about the dangers of high-speed roads in Mumbai. Authorities, however, are still investigating the accident and will determine its exact cause.

The 10.58-km Mumbai Coastal Road links Marine Drive in south Mumbai with the Worli end of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link and is a major east-west traffic corridor in the city.

Police and civic authorities continue to investigate the crash and the circumstances and identities of the victims involved.
