REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Limited, a Maharatna CPSE under the Ministry of Power, has handed over Musalgaon Power Transmission Limited, the project-specific Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), to the successful bidder, Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MSETCL).

The SPV was handed over on September 9, 2026, following MSETCL’s selection as the successful bidder through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process conducted by RECPDCL, which served as the Bid Process Coordinator. The project is aimed at developing Maharashtra’s intra-state transmission infrastructure on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis.

The SPV was formally handed over by Ratnesh Kumar, General Manager (Engineering), RECPDCL, to Amit R. Naik, Chief Engineer (TBCB), MSETCL. Senior officials from MSETCL, Maharashtra State Transmission Utility (Maharashtra STU) and RECPDCL were also present during the handover ceremony.
Key Components of the Transmission Project
The transmission project broadly includes the following major works:
*Establishment of a 220/132/33 kV AIS substation at Musalgaon.
*Construction of approximately 111 km of 220 kV double-circuit transmission line from Musalgaon to the existing Babhaleshwar and Raymond substations.
*Construction of approximately 13 km of 132 kV double-circuit transmission line from Musalgaon to the existing Sinner substation.
*Other associated transmission infrastructure and works.
The project is scheduled to be implemented within 12 months, with an estimated project cost of approximately ₹560 crore. The project is expected to strengthen Maharashtra’s intra-state transmission network and support reliable and efficient power transmission in the region.
