A flood-hit village in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district witnessed a shocking incident after residents had to use empty drums as a makeshift raft to carry the body of a dead man back to home. The incident took place in Rauli Gram Panchayat, where heavy rain and flooding have reportedly the connecting road not usable.

In Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district, villagers used empty drums as a raft to transport a dead body across floodwaters blocking the road to Rauli village. Rewa Collector Narendra Suryavanshi ordered a probe into the incident following allegations of administrative negligence.
Motilal Tiwari’s Body Carried Across Floodwater
Motilal Tiwari, a resident of Rauli under the Jawa administrative block, had been undergoing treatment at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Rewa. He died at the hospital, after that the family was taking his body brought back to his home for last rites.
However, the waterlogging on the road after the flood almost cut off the road access to the village, that make it impossible for vehicles to reach the village. When the villagers had no option, they collected empty drums and put the body on the drum to makeshift floating on the flooded stretch.
The last rites were performed in the village lately.
Villagers Allege Panchayat Failed To Help
The villagers alleged that they asked the Rauli Gram Panchayat for the assistance in transporting the body but didn’t receive help. They have called for an investigation into the alleged lack of assistance from local authorities.
A villager, Rakesh, said, “The public is already grappling with the hardships caused by heavy rains. The death of a family member brings an overwhelming burden of grief. When one has to face such difficulties even in transporting the body, it erodes trust in the system.”
