Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s likely visit to east Delhi on Tuesday evening for Dussehra celebrations and Ravan Dahan has prompted extensive security preparations, with around 2,500 personnel set to be deployed and traffic restrictions planned across several parts of the national capital.
The Prime Minister is expected to attend the celebrations at Utsav Ground in IP Extension, where around 10,000 people are likely to gather for the traditional burning of Ravana’s effigy. Police have prepared a three-layer security arrangement at the venue, while additional measures are being taken along the proposed convoy route.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected at Dussehra celebrations in east Delhi’s IP Extension on Tuesday evening, prompting extensive security measures with approximately 2,500 personnel deployed and traffic diversions planned from 5 pm to 8 pm.
According to police officers familiar with the preparations, personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces and Delhi Police will manage security and crowd movement. The deployment will also include commandos from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit.

Three-Layer Security for PM Modi
The security plan for the Prime Minister’s likely visit will include three distinct layers. The Special Protection Group (SPG) will manage the innermost security ring, while the Delhi Police’s Prime Minister Security Wing will handle the middle layer. Local police personnel will secure the outer perimeter.
Security agencies have conducted repeated anti-sabotage checks at Utsav Ground. Buildings along the proposed convoy route and around the venue have also been checked as part of the preparations.
The arrangements will include CCTV surveillance, drones, metal detectors, baggage scanners, sniffer dogs and quick reaction teams. Ambulances and patrol vehicles will also be deployed to respond to emergencies.
An officer said entry to the venue would be restricted to people carrying valid passes issued by the organisers when the Prime Minister arrives, expected at around 6.30 pm. All visitors will be subjected to security checks.
Delhi Police Prepares for PM Modi’s Movement
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Rajiv Kumar said comprehensive security and traffic arrangements had been made for Dussehra events at IP Extension Ground and other locations within his jurisdiction.
Police will maintain surveillance at and around the venue, with security personnel and CCTV cameras deployed to manage the gathering. Officials have not disclosed further details of the security arrangements.
The preparations also account for the possibility of disruptions along the route or at the venue, officers said.
Traffic Restrictions During PM Modi’s Likely Visit
The Delhi Traffic Police will deploy around 300 personnel along the routes and near the venue. Traffic diversions are scheduled from 5 pm to 8 pm in parts of central, south and east Delhi.
In east Delhi, the affected stretches include National Highway 24 around Patparganj and Ghazipur, Road No. 57, Road No. 57A, Road No. 55 and Vikas Marg.
Police have prepared alternative routes to help manage traffic during the event. Motorists travelling through the affected areas have been advised to check the traffic advisory, plan their journeys in advance and allow additional travel time.
Commuters should also avoid roadside parking and follow traffic signs and instructions from personnel deployed on the roads.
