When Ravie Dubey speaks about the Ramayana, there is no rehearsed PR strategy, only reverence. The actor, who has been cast as Lakshman in Nitesh Tiwari’s monumental two-part epic, recently opened up about the film with the quiet conviction the role demands. Speaking on the sidelines of the Himanshu Roy Legacy Awards 2026 in Mumbai, Dubey gave fans a glimpse into the spirit driving one of India’s most ambitious projects.

Ravie Dubey, cast as Lakshman, shares insights on Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious two-part ‘Ramayana’ film, slated for Diwali 2026 and 2027 releases, also featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash.

What Should We Expect From The Film?

Dubey’s response when asked about expectations from Ramayana was straightforward and full of conviction. “We are doing this film with faith. Bear faith with patience,” he told ANI during an interview.

In many ways, his statement reflects the philosophy behind the entire production. The film is not only being mounted on a massive scale with a star-studded cast and significant investment, but it is also deeply rooted in India’s cultural heritage.

Speaking about the significance of the Ramayana, Dubey said, “India and Ramayana cannot be separated. They are the same.”

How Is Filmmaking Changing?

Ravie Dubey also spoke about how advancing technology is reshaping the possibilities for Indian cinema.

“Change is the only constant. As things evolve, technical prowess increases and better techniques emerge. It’s an incredible tool for Indian cinema and also for global cinema. We’re seeing a lot of positive changes happen,” he said.

However, for Dubey, his association with Ramayana feels less like a career milestone and more like divine destiny. In a fascinating revelation shared recently, the actor recalled an incident that took place nearly a year before he was cast as Lakshman.

While shooting for his show Lakhan Leela Bhargava, in which he played the character Lakhan, Dubey unexpectedly found himself at Shri Lakshman Temple in Lakshmanpuri.

“Almost a year before I was finalised as Lakshman in Ramayana, I landed in Shri Lakshman’s temple in Lakshmanpuri by sheer coincidence while shooting for this show, ‘Lakhan Leela Bhargava’,” Dubey wrote on Instagram.

Calling it an extraordinary case of synchronicity, he added that “our deities are behind everything.”

Everything We Know About ‘Ramayana’

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, best known for Dangal and Chhichhore, and produced by Namit Malhotra, Ramayana is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious Indian films ever made.

The story follows Lord Ram, believed to be an avatar of Lord Vishnu, through his exile from Ayodhya and his eventual battle against Ravana to rescue Sita.

The cast features several prominent names. Ranbir Kapoor will portray Ram, Sai Pallavi will play Sita, Yash will essay the role of Ravana, Sunny Deol will appear as Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey will play Lakshman.

The film is planned as a two-part saga, with the first instalment scheduled for release during Diwali 2026 and the second arriving in Diwali 2027.

Dubey had also remained cautious while discussing his casting in the project. Explaining his silence in an earlier interview, he said:

“I never spoke about it till now because I didn’t want to do anything irresponsible and ruin the plans of Namit and Nitesh sir.”
