Vijay’s foray into politics
Vijay made his debut on-screen as a child actor in 1984 with Vetri, directed by his father, SA Chandrasekhar. His debut as a lead was in 1992 with Naalaiya Theerpu, which was directed by his father and produced by his mother, Shoba. His first commercial blockbuster was with Coimbatore Mappillai in 1996, and there was no looking back after. When Vijay retired from films, he was at the top of his career, with his film Leo among Kollywood’s highest-grossers of all time.
In 2024, Vijay officially announced his political entry and launched his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). In a first for Tamil Nadu, his party became the first non-Dravidian party to be voted into power. He took charge as the state’s CM in May this year. His final film, Jana Nayagan, which was scheduled to release in theatres for Pongal, was delayed by the CBFC. It finally hit screens in July and performed well at the box office despite lukewarm reviews from critics.
Last seen in Maa Inti Bangaaram, Samantha is expecting her first baby with Raj Nidimoru.
