September 1, 2026 will bring a few changes that households, taxpayers and travellers should keep in mind.
This month also has several tax and GST deadlines, while international passengers leaving India will see a change at immigration counters. LPG, petrol and diesel prices will also be closely watched, but consumers should wait for official announcements before factoring any change into their budgets.
Changes effective September 1, 2026, include Mumbai milk costing Rs 102/litre, tax filing deadlines, and no more boarding pass stamps for departing international passengers. RBI’s revised deposit rules begin October 1, 2026.

Mumbai tabela milk to cost Rs 102 per litre
Fresh tabela milk in Mumbai will cost Rs 102 per litre from September 1, up from Rs 93. Milk producers have increased the price by Rs 9 per litre.
For a household buying one litre every day, the increase will add around Rs 270 to the monthly expense. Families buying larger quantities will see a bigger increase.
The hike is limited to tabela milk. Packaged milk prices are decided separately by dairy companies and cooperatives and may not change.
LPG, petrol and diesel prices
LPG prices are reviewed periodically by oil marketing companies, including around the beginning of a month. Any change in September should be confirmed through an official announcement.
Consumers should also check the latest petrol and diesel rates rather than relying on messages or unofficial price lists. Changes in aviation turbine fuel could affect airline operating costs, although they do not necessarily lead to an immediate change in airfares.
Important tax deadlines in September
Taxpayers, professionals and businesses have several deadlines to track in September.
TDS and TCS for August must be deposited by September 7. Eligible taxpayers have until September 11 to file GSTR-1, while the second instalment of advance tax is due on September 15.
GSTR-3B filing is due on September 20 for eligible taxpayers. September 30 is also an important deadline for various audit and compliance requirements.
The exact deadline can vary depending on the taxpayer’s category, so businesses and individuals should check the applicable requirements on the official tax portals.
RBI fixed deposit rules start from October
Fixed deposit investors should note that the Reserve Bank of India’s revised framework on interest rates for bank deposits will not take effect from September 1.
The new framework will come into force from October 1, 2026. It includes provisions covering bulk deposits of Rs 3 crore and above, along with requirements for banks to publish applicable interest rates for such deposits.
Regular retail FD investors do not need to take any immediate action because of these changes.
International passengers won’t need boarding pass stamp
From September 1, international passengers departing from India will no longer need to get their boarding passes stamped at immigration counters.
Officials cited by PTI said passengers can show their e-boarding passes on their smartphones during immigration clearance. Those carrying physical boarding passes can continue to use them.
The change removes one step from the departure process, but passengers will still need their passport, visa and other documents required for international travel.
