A 42-year-old man, Hridayesh Mishra, was shot dead in south Delhi’s Sangam Vihar area on Wednesday. Police said four people were involved and were later arrested. Investigators linked the killing to an old family rivalry. The shooting took place early morning near a temple, police added.

Delhi Police say 42-year-old Hridayesh Mishra, known as Bhura, was shot dead near a temple in Sangam Vihar, South Delhi, during an alleged long-running family rivalry. He was attacked by four men arriving on motorcycles as he moved a mini truck with his brother. All four suspects were arrested.

Mishra, also known as Bhura, worked in construction and lived with family in Sangam Vihar. Police said the family originally came from Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun district. The family had been living in the locality for years. A case was registered and legal steps were started, police said.

Police said the incident happened at around 5 am near a temple. Mishra went there with younger brother Ajay to shift a mini truck. The vehicle was parked close to the temple. As Ajay started the vehicle, the attackers arrived on two motorcycles and opened fire.

Police said Mishra left the motorcycle and ran towards a godown to escape. Ajay also moved towards Mishra during the attack. Mishra received several gunshot wounds and fell outside the godown gate, police said. The assailants kept firing and then fled from the spot.

Mishra was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared Mishra dead. Police said Ajay suffered minor injuries in an initial scuffle. Ajay was receiving medical treatment, police added. Officers reached the area soon after getting information about the shooting.

The Crime Team and Forensic Sciences Laboratory FSL experts inspected the scene. Police said evidence was collected from the spot. During checks, police found a long-running dispute between Mishra and one accused. The accused was believed to be Mishra’s cousin and lived nearby.

Police said the feud was linked to a murder case registered earlier in Badaun district. Teams reviewed CCTV footage from the area and carried out raids. All four accused were arrested, police said. “Further investigation is on to establish the exact sequence of events and the roles of the accused, a police officer said.\”
