BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi on Thursday delivered a strong message in the Rajya Sabha during a discussion on examination reforms and the recent student protests. Speaking about the importance of responsible public discourse, ethics in education and the growing influence of social media, Trivedi urged youth to think carefully.
In Rajya Sabha, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi urged youth to critically evaluate social media’s influence, uphold ethical public discourse, and balance enjoyment with responsibility, stressing education’s need for moral foundations.
Sudhanshu Trivedi expressed concern over the language used by some protesters during the recent demonstrations. Referring to abusive remarks allegedly made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother, he said such behaviour reflected poorly on public discourse.
He observed that young people often learn from the conduct of elders and stressed that leaders inside Parliament should set the right example through their words and actions.
Trivedi added that regardless of political differences, all parties should come together to address issues related to education with seriousness and responsibility.
He concluded this part of his speech by reciting a Hindi verse that underlined the importance of moral values in education:
“Sheer vinay aadarsh sabhyata, taar bina jhankar nahi hai; Shiksha kya swar saad sakegi yadi naitik aadhaar nahi hai.”
Through the verse, he said that education cannot achieve its true purpose without a strong ethical foundation.

‘Free Social Media Comes at a Cost’
Addressing the younger generation, Trivedi warned them against blindly trusting social media platforms simply because they are free to use.
He compared social media with everyday products, saying that while even a small bottle of water costs money, platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp are offered without any direct payment.
According to him, people should question why these services are free.
He argued that nothing is truly free and suggested that digital platforms seek to capture users’ attention, influence their thinking and shape their behaviour.
Trivedi urged young people to remain aware of the impact social media can have on their opinions and decision-making.
A Message for Gen Z
The BJP leader also referred to the popular song lyric, “Yahi Umar Kar Le, Tu Galti Se Mistake,” while speaking to Gen Z.
Using the phrase, he advised youngsters not to treat mistakes casually simply because they are young. Instead, he encouraged them to make thoughtful decisions and remain alert to influences around them.
He stressed that the digital world presents both opportunities and challenges, making it important for young people to think independently rather than getting carried away by online trends.
‘Youth Must Balance Enjoyment With Responsibility’
Concluding his address, Trivedi shared another message for the country’s youth by referring to three aspects of life-yoga, enjoyment and struggle.
He remarked that youth often spend a large part of their time pursuing comfort and entertainment, while giving comparatively less attention to challenges and responsibilities.
