The Tamil Nadu government has announced “Vetri Laptop Scheme” which provides free laptop to college students.
In the budget, Finance Minister N Marie Wilson said that it will be implemented at a cost of 2,crore where modern laptops will distributed to college students.
During the budget presentation, Tamil Nadu’s Finance Minister N Marie Wilson announced the Vetri Laptop Scheme costing ₹2 crore for college students and reaffirmed the government’s opposition to NEET.
“A laptop has become an indispensable information technology device for students pursuing higher education. In today’s rapidly advancing digital era, laptops are invaluable assets for students to sharpen their technical expertise, undergo skill development training, and make effective use of their time. Recognising this, our Government will implement the ‘Vetri Laptop Scheme’ for college students. With an allocation of Rs.2,000 crore, this initiative aims to equip students with laptops as an essential learning resource,” the government said.
Wilson is presenting the TVK government’s first Budget in the Assembly and hailed Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay for halting “cut” in tenders.
Reiterating that the TVK regime opposes NEET, Wilson urged the Centre to scrap the test and revert to the old method of admissions based on class 12 marks. He said several steps were being taken to bring the state out of “financial crunch.” He said CM Vijay has made a big achievement by stopping “cut” in tenders to some parties and individuals. He also listed reformative initiatives, including transparency in tenders.
