Yash’s Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is continuing its box office run, although the film has seen a sharp drop in collections after its massive opening.
Released on August 26 in multiple languages to a massive hype, the earned around ₹2.35 crore net in India from 1,677 shows on day 12, according to Sacnilk data. With this, Toxic has taken its India net collection to ₹245.75 crore, while the India gross stands at ₹293.30 crore.
Released August 26, Yash’s Toxic recorded a massive ₹101.10 crore net opening in India, but collections sharply declined afterward. By day 12, the film achieved ₹245.75 crore net in India and ₹337.80 crore worldwide, struggling to maintain its initial pace.
The film added another ₹0.50 crore from overseas markets on its second Sunday. Its overseas gross collection has now reached ₹44.50 crore. Combining the India and overseas numbers, Toxic has collected ₹337.80 crore worldwide so far.
The big story, however, remains its opening day.
Toxic opened to a huge ₹101.10 crore net in India on its first Wednesday, with the film recording 24,579 shows and an occupancy of 56.1%. It was always going to be difficult for the film to maintain that kind of pace.
Collections dropped to ₹37.65 crore on Thursday and then came down further over the next few days. The film collected ₹27.20 crore on Friday, followed by ₹25.15 crore on Saturday and ₹23 crore on Sunday.
The first Monday brought a much bigger fall, with collections slipping to ₹7.65 crore. Tuesday was slightly better at ₹7.85 crore.
By the end of its first week, Toxic had collected ₹239.30 crore net in India. The second week, though, has been a different story.
The film managed ₹5.45 crore on its second Wednesday and ₹4.25 crore on Thursday. Collections then fell to ₹1.75 crore on Friday before showing a small improvement over the weekend. Saturday brought in ₹2.28 crore, while Sunday saw the film collect ₹2.42 crore.
Interestingly, the film’s occupancy improved over the second weekend even as the overall collection remained low. On Day 12, Toxic recorded 30.5% occupancy across 1,775 shows.
For Yash, the numbers underline both sides of the film’s theatrical journey. Toxic made a spectacular start and crossed the ₹200-crore mark in India within its first week, but sustaining that momentum has proved much harder.
At ₹337.80 crore worldwide, the film has certainly put up a sizeable number. The bigger question now is how much more it can add before its theatrical run begins to slow down further.
