The BRICS summit will cause hindrance to the train passengers travelling to or from Delhi during the BRICS Summit. The Northern Railway has cancelled 26 trains and diverted more than a dozen others as part of the key arrangements for the summit scheduled from September 11 to 13.
For the BRICS Summit in Delhi from September 11-13, Northern Railway cancelled 26 trains and diverted over a dozen to manage VVIP movements and security, affecting local and long-distance train services.
The changes are aimed at managing railway operations during the movement of foreign leaders, VVIPs and their delegations. Apart from cancellations and diversions, several trains will either start or terminate at different stations, while some services will be regulated for up to 40 minutes.
Why Are Trains Being Cancelled?
The BRICS Summit is bringing several foreign heads of state, senior officials and security teams to Delhi.
With VVIP movements requiring tight security and controlled access around important routes, Northern Railway has prepared a special operating plan for the Delhi Division.
The plan includes:
- Cancellation of selected trains
- Diversion of long-distance services
- Short-originating trains
- Short-terminating trains
- Temporary regulation of train movements
- Changes in train operations across parts of the National Capital Region
The restrictions will remain in place during the summit period, although the exact impact will depend on individual trains and routes.
EMU and MEMU Passengers to Face the Biggest Impact
The disruptions would primarily impact EMU and MEMU trains linking Delhi with surrounding towns and suburbs. Travellers moving between Delhi, Ghaziabad, Palwal, Shakurbasti and New Delhi will be some of those who will get impacted by these disruptions.
There are various daily train services that would either get cancelled or have their terminus station changed for those moving into Delhi.
Regular passengers may need to make alternative arrangements for these disruptions.
Long-Distance Trains Also Diverted
These changes are not restricted to the local trains only. Various trains such as Rajdhani and various express trains have been diverted via other routes so that the trains don’t travel via the busy parts of the Delhi railway network.
The various Rajdhani trains heading for places like Ranchi, Dibrugarh, Sealdah, Howrah, and Bhubaneswar are some of the trains that have been diverted.
These trains will also have their origin or destination stations as Ghaziabad, Sahibabad, Delhi Shahdara, and Shakurbasti.
Vande Bharat and Other Express Trains May Also Run Late
Trains that have not been cancelled may experience delays even if passengers are not traveling by them. Operating guidelines for Northern Railway involve temporary regulations of some express, superfast, and Vande Bharat trains.
Regulation of trains may vary from 10 to 40 minutes depending on the route and security needs.
For instance, the Banaras-New Delhi Vande Bharat train is going to be regulated for about 35 minutes in the NCR segment.
It is important for passengers to understand that trains may have issues even if they have not been cancelled.

- 64492: New Delhi-Palwal Ladies EMU

Some of these cancellations are linked to changes in the operation of connecting trains.
September 13
Train cancellations will continue on the final day of the summit.
Affected services include:

Some services on September 13 were already affected by ongoing RLDA-related work around Faridabad.
