In one of a shocking development Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar, a 1994 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer was found dead at the state police headquarters in Agartala on Monday. The investigation is on and based on the preliminary findings it is said to be a case of suicide.
Tripura Director General of Police Anurag Dhankar, a 1994-batch IPS officer, was found dead Monday at the Agartala police headquarters, with preliminary findings pointing to suicide from a self-inflicted gunshot injury as the investigation continues.
Victim Dhankar was taken to the Govind Ballabh Pant (GB) Hospital as soon as he was found but he was declared dead.
Investigation Underway
Based on the initial information, police believe that Dhankar died from a self-inflicted gunshot injury. Authorities have not yet released detailed findings and the investigation is on.
Officials said all aspects of the case are being examined before any final conclusion is reached. More information is expected after the completion of the inquiry and other legal formalities.
Who Was Anurag Dhankar?
Informing that Anurag Dhankar was a 1994 batch IPS officer with over thirty years of experience in policing and law and order. He took the post of Director General of Police of Tripura in May 2025, Succeeding Amitabh Ranjan. Ahead of becoming state police chief, he served as the Director General (Intelligence) in Tripura.
Dhanklar amid his career worked with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) where he dealt with several high profile investigations.
