The meeting assessed district-wise progress, treatment outcomes, and measures to strengthen early detection, surveillance, awareness, treatment adherence, and outreach in higher-burden districts.

During the meeting, Suvendu Adhikari called for coordinated work by elected representatives, doctors, and officials. “Eliminating tuberculosis requires sustained collective action. Public representatives, doctors and government officials must work together to ensure that every patient is identified, treated and supported,\” Suvendu Adhikari said. The focus remained on ensuring patients were found early and stayed on treatment.

Discussions also covered faster action in districts with a comparatively higher tuberculosis burden. The Health Department official said interventions in such districts were reviewed for speed and reach. The meeting also explored improved access to diagnosis and treatment services. The official said greater community participation was also discussed.

The Health Department official said the review was part of West Bengal’s role in the national elimination goal. The approach relied on intensified detection and timely treatment. The official added that public participation was seen as important for better results. Officials and healthcare teams were expected to keep tracking progress and outcomes.
