The BJP has said it will review its bypoll defeats in Bankipur and Datia after retaining only one of the three Assembly seats that went to polls, with party president Nitin Nabin acknowledging that the results fell short of expectations in two constituencies. The sharpest setback came in Bihar’s Bankipur, a seat long seen as a BJP stronghold and closely linked to Nabin’s own political career.

In his first response after the results, Nabin accepted the mandate and thanked voters in Gujarat’s Manjalpur constituency, where the BJP managed to hold on to the seat. He also congratulated party workers and office-bearers for the victory, while making it clear that the organisation would examine the losses in Bihar and Madhya Pradesh seriously.

The BJP will review its by-election losses in Bihar’s Bankipur and Madhya Pradesh’s Datia constituencies, retaining only Gujarat’s Manjalpur seat after falling short of expectations. Party president Nitin Nabin acknowledged the mandate and promised a detailed introspection into the organizational setbacks.

BJP accepts bypoll verdict, promises review

“We accept the mandate received in today’s three assembly by-elections,” Nabin said in a post on X. Referring to the defeats in Bankipur and Datia, he added that the party “did not receive the expected mandate” and would conduct a detailed introspection of the results in both areas.

The statement was carefully framed to avoid panic while admitting disappointment. Nabin said the BJP would go back to voters “with renewed energy and determination” and continue working to strengthen public trust. The message signalled that the party does not want the losses to be read as a larger collapse, but as local setbacks requiring organisational correction.

For the BJP, the mixed bypoll outcome presents two different political messages. Manjalpur allowed the party to show continuity in Gujarat, one of its most reliable states. Bankipur, however, is a more sensitive result because it directly touches the prestige of the party president and the BJP’s urban base in Bihar.
