Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her virtual press conference expressed her desire to return to Bangladesh. She reveals that she wants to go back to Bangladesh in the month of December as it is their victory month.
Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, currently in India, aims to return to Bangladesh in December, its victory month, stating her goal is to serve the people and restore democracy, not regain political power.
She said, “I believe in democracy and that’s why I want to go back. They have also removed our symbols of our victory and so I want to get it back to my country.”
Speaking virtually from New Delhi on the second anniversary of her ouster, Hasina said her return was not about regaining power but about serving the people of Bangladesh.

Has Sheikh Hasina Announced a Return Date?
Not date but the month.
Answering a question from a journalist she said, “I want to go back in the month of December as it is our victory month.” She further added, “I believe in democracy and that’s why I want to go back. They have also removed our symbols of our victory and so I want to get it back to my country.”
During her address, she said she wants to return because the people of Bangladesh deserve security, stability and democracy. She also said fear would not stop her from fulfilling what she described as her duty towards the people.
“I may be detained. I may be sent to prison. But fear cannot decide my duty to the people,” she said.

What Did Hasina Say About Her Return?
Hasina said her return is driven by her commitment to the people rather than political power.
“My return is not about power. It is about putting Bangladesh back on the right track and restoring stability,” she said. She added that she wants to return to improve the lives of the people and expressed confidence in the citizens of Bangladesh.
“The people are the source of all power. I believe in them, I love them and I trust them,” she said.
Why Hasn’t She Returned Yet?
Hasina has been living in India since August 5, 2024, after leaving Bangladesh following the anti-government protests that led to the collapse of her Awami League government.
Since then, Bangladesh’s political situation has changed significantly.

Her Awami League has been banned, and she has been sentenced to death in absentia by Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal in a case related to the 2024 violence. Hasina has rejected the allegations and described the cases against her as politically motivated.
