Nepal is facing a horrific flash-flood disaster, with the death toll rising to 270 as rescue and relief operations continue across the affected regions. Amid the chaos, authorities have also located around 100 Indians who were reported missing or stranded after the floods.

Nepal is grappling with a flash flood disaster that has claimed 270 lives and left thousands missing; around 100 Indians, including actor Kharaj Mukherjee, were found safe and are seeking a road return route due to disrupted flights.
The list of Indians stranded in Nepal includes a Bengali actor Kharaj Mukherjee and his wife Pratibha are stranded in Nepal amid the devastating flash flood that caused destruction.
The actor’s family has confirmed that both are safe and that Kharaj remains in contact with them by phone.
The couple had travelled to Nepal with a group connected to a Bangladeshi film production. With air travel disrupted because of the worsening situation, the group is now exploring an alternative route to return to India.
Kharaj Mukherjee And Wife Safe In Nepal
Kharaj visited Nepal on August 20 with his wife and crew members of a film production team from Bangladesh.
The flood worsened, and they found themselves stuck. But Kharaj has been able to stay in touch with his family and has assured them that they are safe.
A member of the family said that in spite of the tough times, the actor had called them up and told them that they were all safe.
Rajatabha Dutta, who is an actor too and part of this group, is safe according to reports.
Group Plans To Return To India By Road
Initially, the group was supposed to return through flights from Kathmandu. But because of the flood problem, it has become tough to return via flights. Therefore, the group needs to think of an alternative means of transport.
They plan to take a trip via road to Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. From there, the group should take flights to Kolkata.
The travel by road would depend upon the state of highways and other roads due to floods and landslides.
Who Is Kharaj Mukherjee?
Kharaj Mukherjee is a famous actor of Bengali cinema who has acted in many acclaimed and commercially successful movies.
The list of his films in Bengali includes Muktodhara, Jaatishwar, Accident and many others. Also, he has done many films in Hindi language.
Some of his films in Hindi include Kahaani, Special 26, The Namesake, Yuva, Parineeta, Laga Chunari Mein Daag and Lafangey Parindey.
Thus, being a versatile actor in both Bengali and Hindi films makes him popular among the Indian audience.
Nepal Flood Situation Remains Grim
The situation in Nepal remains serious following the devastating flash floods. The death toll has risen to 177, while authorities continue efforts to locate thousands of people reported missing.
Around 300 Indian tourists are also reportedly among those missing, adding to concerns among families waiting for information from the affected areas.
The floods have damaged roads and other infrastructure in several areas, making rescue and evacuation operations more difficult.
West Bengal Government Monitoring Situation
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has expressed concern over the loss of lives in Nepal and offered condolences to the families affected by the disaster.
He also said that the West Bengal government is monitoring the situation and coordinating with the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu and Nepalese authorities.
The effort is aimed at assisting people from West Bengal, including tourists, pilgrims, workers and business travellers who may have been affected by the floods.
