A 28-year-old niece of Trinamool Congress chief and former West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Bristi Mukherjee was found dead at her family home in Birbhum’s Rampurhat area on Tuesday. Now Police has started investigation into the matter and they await post-mortem report to know the circumstances behind the incident.

Bristi Mukherjee, 28, niece of Mamata Banerjee and daughter of TMC leader Nihar Mukherjee, was found dead at her Rampurhat home on Tuesday; police await a post-mortem report amid investigations into potential factors like depression and her job loss linked to the Bengal recruitment case cancellation.
Her family has said that she had been undergoing treatment for depression for several years and was going through difficulties in her personal life as well.
Who Was Mamata Banerjee’s Cousin’s Daughter Bristi Mukherjee
Bristi was the daughter of Mamata Banerjee’s maternal cousin Nihar Mukherjee who is also a local leader who served as the party’s Rampurhat-I block president.
She lived with her family in Kusumba village. The police has recovered her body from a room on the second floor of the house and sent it for post-mortem to Rampurhat Government Medical College and Hospital.
The Police has not confirmed any cause of death till now. A senior officer of West Bengal police said, “The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. An investigation is underway. The circumstances leading to the death will be established after the post-mortem and other procedural inquiries.”
Job Loss Put Her Name In Bengal Recruitment Case
Bristi had worked as a non-teaching employee at Bolpur’s Upper Primary School. Her appointment itself was a controversial over recruitment in government-aided schools in West Bengal.
Around 26,000 teaching and non-teaching appointments were cancelled after court proceedings over alleged irregularities in the recruitment process. The Calcutta High Court had struck down the appointments and later Supreme Court upheld the decision. Bristi was also one of those who got affected by the cancellation.
Her family has said that she got the position on her own merit, while reports suggest difference on the circumstances of her departure from the job. Some says that she resigned by herself while some says she lost the job after the court proceedings.
Divorce Proceedings And Mental Health Concerns
Bristi was also going through divorce proceeding with her husband. Family allegedly said that she was going through depression for several years and receiving medical treatment.
While this one could be a major reason as the family mentioned the difficulties but the police has not made any statement regarding the circumstances of her death. Police will only be open out the case after the investigation and post-mortem report.
