A private Learjet 60 crashed in Palm Beach County, Florida, on November 1, killing all nine people aboard and prompting the evacuation of 600 residents. The NTSB and FAA are investigating the cause of the incident.
The Learjet 60 was flying from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas. It crashed near the Cresthaven neighbourhood in Palm Beach County at around 12:50 pm local time (17:50 GMT).
The crash site is around nine miles (14 km) from Mar-a-Lago, US President Donald Trump’s resort.
Private Jet Falls From Sky And Explodes
The aircraft crashed on Military Trail, a road with several restaurants and shops. The impact left a large hole in the road. Pieces of the aircraft, broken concrete and fire were seen across the area.
A video from a vehicle’s dashboard camera shows the jet falling towards the ground before a huge explosion. The video is being shared on social media, but officials have not confirmed its authenticity.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis spoke about the crash at a news conference. He said, “When you see that video, it’s a jarring thing. It’s like a missile coming down, and a massive explosion, debris going everywhere.”

Nine People Die, 600 Residents Evacuated
US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed that all nine people on the plane had died. Officials have not yet shared their names.
Duffy called the crash a “horrific tragedy”. He also said the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) would send a team to help the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) with the investigation.
“Please join me in praying for the families and loved ones of those we lost,” Duffy added.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue called the crash a “mass casualty incident”. Local authorities also asked around 600 people living in a nearby mobile home community to leave their homes.
Road To Remain Closed For 30 Days
The crash also damaged local infrastructure, including water lines. Military Trail is expected to remain closed for at least 30 days because of the damage.
DeSantis said there were no reports of deaths or injuries among people on the ground.
Thunderstorms and heavy rain were also reported in the area around the time of the crash. However, officials have not confirmed whether the weather caused the accident.
The FAA and NTSB will investigate the crash and find out what caused the aircraft to fall.
