The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Sunday announced that it will re-conduct the UGC-NET examination for three subjects English, Commerce and Sociology after a review found multiple errors in the questions papers.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will re-conduct UGC-NET exams for English, Commerce, and Sociology following errors found in the June 2026 papers. Re-examinations are scheduled for September 9, 2026, for English and Commerce, and September 10, 2026, for Sociology.
The decision affects candidates who appeared for these subjects during the UGC-NET examination conducted between June 22 and June 30, 2026.
According to the NTA, the re-examination for English and Commerce will be held on September 9, while the Sociology paper will be conducted on September 10.
Why Is NTA Re-Conducting UGC-NET Papers?
This decision came after the agency received some complaints from some candidates about mistakes in the English, Commerce, and Sociology papers.
After the complaints were received, the NTA formed a committee to look into the complaints raised by the candidates and analyze the papers.
Several issues were identified, and conducting new examinations was proposed in order to ensure justice for the candidates.
According to the NTA, the new examinations would be conducted to give the candidates a fair exam experience.
What Errors Were Found In UGC-NET Papers?
A lot of errors were identified in the three examination papers by the committee during its assessment. The errors that were identified include errors in facts, typographical errors, and translation errors.
Errors identified also included mis-spelling of the names of prominent academics, errors in the presentation of book titles and errors in the language of the questions.
Some of the questions also had grammar errors, errors of gender and number agreement, and punctuation errors.
Non-standard or coinage terms were used in the place of academic terms.
The other big problem identified was the fact that many of the questions in the examination paper had been repeated from previous examination papers.
Following this evaluation, the committee recommended that the three subjects examinations be retaken.
UGC-NET Re-Exam Dates Announced
The NTA has also announced the dates for the fresh examinations.
The English and Commerce UGC-NET examinations will be conducted on September 9, 2026.
Candidates appearing for Sociology will take the re-examination on September 10, 2026.
The re-examination will replace the affected papers conducted during the June examination cycle.
