This was not the first time that Abhijeet Dipke had been taken into preventive custody by the Delhi Police. On October 10, he was detained from inside an aircraft at Delhi airport, whereafter a separate case related to a breach of peace was registered. He was required to sign a bond not to disturb public peace for one year.
Neha Bora, who was released earlier on Saturday, slammed the Delhi Police and the BJP-led government at the Centre, saying that the detentions were illegal. She also demanded that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls be stopped and called for the resignation and imprisonment of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The police had deployed tightened security measures in Connaught Place ahead of the proposed protest. They said around 150 people had been detained as a preventive measure to maintain law and order and ensure the smooth movement of traffic.
