CM Yogi Adityanath said that the Godhdhoiya nala restoration work in Gorakhpur will be finished by 15 June. After completion, the project is expected to give direct relief to about 2.5 to 5 lakh residents living in the northern part of the city, where waterlogging has troubled people for years.
Gorakhpur’s Godhdhoiya nala restoration, a 9.5 km project featuring a 35 MLD STP, will be completed by June 15, according to CM Yogi Adityanath, providing relief from waterlogging to 2.5-5 lakh residents and modernizing city drainage.
According to CM Yogi Adityanath, the Godhdhoiya nala project is not limited to drainage improvement. The project is being treated as a template for making Gorakhpur cleaner, more organised and more modern. Areas that earlier faced severe waterlogging even after one hour of rain are planned to get a structured drainage system.

CM Yogi Adityanath stated that the Godhdhoiya nala, once known as a dirty drain, is being reshaped as a modern drainage channel. Earlier, this nala carried filthy water and foul smell from Jungle Chhatradhari and nearby localities towards Ramgarhtal. The government now wants only clean water flow on the surface in this stretch.
The plan includes separate underground lines for sewer and storm water so that both systems remain distinct. Officials are designing the entire network on scientific lines. The aim is to ensure that sewage does not mix with rainwater and that maintenance remains easier for civic agencies over the long term.

Project details shared during the visit highlight the scale of work. The nala will be built in reinforced concrete and aligned to quickly carry excess water towards the Rapti river. Along both sides, roads and service lanes are under construction, so residents can get better connectivity as well as relief from flooding.
CM Yogi Adityanath informed that 14 bridges and culverts are being built over the nala to keep movement of people and vehicles safe. As part of the same project, a sewage treatment plant with 35 MLD capacity and a pumping station has been set up. Some remaining sewer line work may finish within 15–20 days.

Public role in CM Yogi Godhdhoiya nala project Gorakhpur
CM Yogi Adityanath appealed to citizens to support the Swachh Gorakhpur campaign and upcoming cleanliness surveys. CM Yogi Adityanath said people must stop throwing plastic, polythene, clothes and household waste into drains and rivers. CM Yogi Adityanath stressed that civic facilities alone cannot succeed without responsible habits inside homes and neighbourhoods.
CM Yogi Adityanath added that with public cooperation, Gorakhpur can become a clean, safe and visually better city for coming generations. CM Yogi Adityanath congratulated project officials and public representatives associated with the Godhdhoiya nala work and mentioned that there will be a large inauguration event after completion, where CM Yogi Adityanath plans to participate again.
During the visit to Gorakhpur, CM Yogi Adityanath also inspected the ongoing construction along the nala route. MP Ravi Kishan Shukla, mayor Dr. Mangalesh Srivastava and several public representatives and administrative officers were present. The inspection underlined that the government links this project with transport connectivity, new economic activity and improved urban facilities in Gorakhpur.
