The monsoon remains active over several parts of India, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting rain and thunderstorms in multiple regions on Sunday, September 20.

IMD Issues Fresh September 20 Alert

The latest forecast points to wet weather in parts of central, eastern and southern India, while some areas may also experience lightning and gusty winds.
However, the latest IMD warning does not support a blanket alert for 18 states or a uniform 60 kmph wind warning across the country.

Odisha, West Bengal And Sikkim To See Thunderstorm Activity

Odisha will continue experiencing active weather phenomena for the coming period. As per the weather prediction of the IMD, the region will experience thunderstorms and squally conditions with lightning on September 20. There is also an expectation of more rains in the coming days, with warnings of heavy to very heavy rain in the forecast period.

Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim will experience thunderstorms and lightning on September 20. There will be increased rains expected in the coming days as predicted by the IMD forecast.

Madhya Pradesh And Rajasthan: Thunderstorms Likely

On September 20, both East and West Madhya Pradesh would experience lightning and thunderstorm.

It is clear that the warning lasts till September 21 and indicates that there will be unstable weather throughout the state.

East Rajasthan is also expected to see thunderstorm and lightning on September 20. The IMD had predicted heavy rainfall in the region on September 19 and then the thunderstorm warning was issued for September 20. There is no such warning issued for West Rajasthan for September 20.

South India Also Remains Under Watch

According to the weather department, there will be rain and thunderstorms in some parts of southern India. Heavy rains, thunderstorms, and winds will occur in coastal Andhra Pradesh on September 20. There will also be thunderstorms and strong winds in Rayalaseema region.

There will also be rains in some parts of Karnataka. According to the IMD, there will be heavy rains in North Interior Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka on September 20, coupled with thunderstorms and lightning. Heavy rains will also occur in Coastal Karnataka.

Andaman And Nicobar Islands To Receive Heavy Rain

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are also likely to experience unsettled weather. The latest IMD warning forecasts heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning on September 20. The islands are expected to remain under weather watch over the following days as well.

What About Delhi, Uttar Pradesh And Uttarakhand?

The latest IMD subdivision-wise warning does not show a warning for Delhi, East or West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, or Jammu and Kashmir for September 20. This differs from some earlier reports that had listed these regions under a broad heavy-rain and thunderstorm alert.

Therefore, claims that Delhi and all parts of Uttar Pradesh will face heavy rain and 60 kmph winds on September 20 should be treated cautiously unless supported by a newer city- or district-specific IMD update.
