Tom Holland’s ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is rewriting box-office history, with industry estimates projecting to deliver a staggering $535 million-$630 million opening weekend Worldwide.
Tom Holland’s ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, projects a $535M-$630M worldwide opening weekend and earned a record $72M from previews, potentially breaking historical box office records. The plot revisits Peter Parker after his identity was forgotten by the world.
It is expected a $260 million-$330 million opening weekend in North America alone, potentially challenging the all-time US opening record set by ‘Avengers: Endgame’ ($357.1 million).
Sony has maintained a more conservative forecast of $190 million-$195 million.
If those numbers hold, Brand New Day could rank among the biggest global openings in cinema history, surpassing Spider-Man: No Way Home’s $587 million worldwide launch and potentially closing in on Avengers: Endgame’s record-breaking $1.2 billion global debut.
It must be noted that India is also emerging as a major contributor to the film’s global success. Trade estimates suggest Brand New Day could collect Rs. 35 crore-Rs. 45 crore on its opening day, driven by strong advance bookings, premium-format screenings and robust occupancy across major metro cities. If the momentum continues through the weekend, the film could challenge some of the biggest Hollywood opening weekends ever recorded in India.
Adding to its record-breaking run, the film has already generated $72 million from preview screenings (previews are paid screenings that take place before the movie’s official opening day, usually on Wednesday or Thursday evenings), the highest preview gross ever recorded. The previous record belonged to Avengers: Endgame, which earned $60 million in previews before its historic 2019 launch.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, ‘Brand New Day’ takes place four years after ‘No Way Home’, with the world having forgotten Peter Parker’s identity. Peter is separated from MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) while facing a mysterious new villain played by Sadie Sink.
Noting that the film has also won over audiences and critics, earning a 98% audience score and 90% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the highest-rated live-action Spider-Man films.
Meanwhile, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey continues its strong theatrical run and is expected to collect around $52 million in its third weekend, marking Nolan’s strongest third-frame performance since The Dark Knight.
