The United States in a strong position to win the war against Iran, US President Donald Trump said on Monday. He claimed that Washington’s actions have weakened Tehran amid the talks for the second round of peace negotiation are underway.
The next round of negotiations on the US war against Iran is scheduled in Pakistan, where Vice President JD Vance, Jared Kushner, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff are expected to lead talks with the Iranian side. The discussions gain urgency because a ceasefire is due to expire on Wednesday, raising concern about a slide into broad infrastructure strikes.
US and Iran are resuming peace talks in Islamabad, Pakistan, led by JD Vance, Jared Kushner, and Steve Witkoff, before a ceasefire expires Wednesday. President Trump claims US military pressure has weakened Iran, losing $500 million daily, but Iran insists it won’t negotiate under a blockade.

US war against Iran: high‑stakes Islamabad talks and looming deadline
Officials describe the Islamabad meeting as a vital diplomatic “off-ramp” in the US war against Iran before any move towards large-scale attacks on critical facilities. The latest engagement follows a 21-hour negotiating session earlier this month that stretched late into the night but ended without any formal agreement between the two sides.
Washington maintains that a “fair and reasonable” proposal remains available in the US war against Iran, according to officials familiar with the brief. However, Iranian leaders insist they will not sign under what they call the “shadow of a blockade,” suggesting that the earlier marathon session might prove only an opening chapter in a longer and more dangerous standoff.
US war against Iran: Trump’s claims of military advantage and economic pressure
Amid these diplomatic efforts around the US war against Iran, Trump used a Truth Social post to argue that American military actions have severely weakened Iran’s capabilities. Trump said the United States is “winning” and claimed that Tehran’s forces, including naval and air assets, have been sharply reduced during the confrontation.
On Truth Social, Trump wrote, “I’m winning a War, BY A LOT, things are going very well, our Military has been amazing and, if you read the Fake News, like The Failing New York Times, the absolutely horrendous and disgusting Wall Street Journal, or the now almost defunct, fortunately, Washington Post, you would actually think we are losing the War. The enemy is confused, because they get these same Media “reports,” and yet they realize their Navy has been completely wiped out, their Air Force has gone onto darker runways, they have no Anti Missile or Anti Airplane Equipment, their former leaders are mostly gone (This has been, in addition to everything else, Regime Change!), and perhaps, most important of all, THE BLOCKADE, which we will not take off until there is a “DEAL,” is absolutely destroying Iran.”
Trump further stated in the same post, “They are losing $500 Million Dollars a day, an unsustainable number, even in the short run. The Anti-America Fake News Media is rooting for Iran to win, but it’s not going to happen, because I’m in charge! Just like these unpatriotic people used every ounce of their limited strength to fight me in the Election, they continue to do so with Iran. The result will be the same, It already is!”Trump’s comments on the US war against Iran also targeted sections of the American media, which Trump accused of misrepresenting battlefield conditions and “rooting for Iran.”
