There has been a shocking turn of events after the death of a 30-year-old woman and two of her children, due to an unfortunate incident that occurred at Naldurg Fort in the Dharashiv district of Maharashtra.
A woman and two children died after falling from Naldurg Fort in Dharashiv, Maharashtra; police are now investigating her husband and three relatives for alleged dowry harassment, shifting the case from an initial accidental death report.
Though one of the woman’s children survived the accident, he too was badly hurt and has since then been admitted to a hospital.
However, what was initially thought to be a case of accidental death is today leading to a police case against the husband of the deceased along with three of his relatives.
Woman and Children Fell From Upli Bastion
The accident happened on Thursday where Ashwini Manohar Pol, who is a resident of the Vhantal village, came to visit Naldurg Fort along with her three kids.
Ashwini was with her five-year-old son named Ajinkya along with her twins aged two and half years named Veera and Kranti.
As per the information received from the police authorities, Ashwini along with her three children had fallen from the topmost place of the old fort called ‘Upli bastion’.
Ashwini, Ajinkya, and one of the twin girls lost their lives whereas the other twin girl suffered serious injuries.
Police Initially Registered Accidental Death Report
Following the deaths, police initially registered an accidental death report as the circumstances surrounding the fall were being examined. However, the case took a different direction after Ashwini’s father, Tanaji Mohite, approached the police with a complaint against her husband and his family.
Mohite alleged that his daughter had been subjected to repeated harassment over dowry.
Father Alleges Dowry Harassment
In his complaint, Mohite alleged that Ashwini was repeatedly pressured to bring money and valuables from her parental family.
He also alleged that she was taunted for giving birth to twin daughters.
According to the complaint, Ashwini was allegedly asked to bring money and gold bangles from her family. Her father further alleged that she was pressured to arrange funds to help purchase an autorickshaw.
The allegations have not been established in court and are currently part of the police investigation.
Husband, Father-in-Law Among Four Accused
According to the report, a case has been booked against Ashwini’s husband, Manohar Pol, her father-in-law, Ankush Pol, and two female members of the family on the basis of the complaint.
The accused live in Ambulga in the Latur district.
No arrests have been made till date.
The investigation into the matter will focus on the complaint made by the father of Ashwini as well as the circumstances surrounding the deaths at the fort.
Case Registered Under BNS Sections
The case has been registered at Naldurg Police Station under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
These include:
- Section 80 – dowry death
- Section 108 – abetment of suicide
- Section 85 – subjecting a woman to cruelty
- Section 3(5) – acts done by several persons with common intention
The police are now investigating whether the deaths were accidental or whether the allegations made by the woman’s family point to circumstances that require further criminal action.
