Former cricketer and Trinamool Congress MP Yusuf Pathan’s father-in-law and brother-in-law have been arrested in Mumbai for allegedly assaulting a family of three in a road rage incident in Byculla, according to a report by NDTV.

Mumbai police arrested Khalid Pathan (father-in-law) and Shoaib Khan (brother-in-law) of cricketer Yusuf Pathan, along with Umarshad Khan, for allegedly assaulting a family during a Byculla road rage incident involving weapons, and they were remanded to judicial custody until May 2.

How The Byculla Road Rage Incident Unfolded

The clash reportedly began after water accumulated on a road splashed onto Khalid Pathan and Shoaib Khan when a car driven by a man identified as Yusuf Pathan passed through a puddle in Mumbai’s Byculla area.

What started as a verbal argument soon escalated into violence. As per the complaint, Shoaib allegedly confronted the occupants of the vehicle and smashed the car’s windshield with a bamboo stick after the splash.

“My brother, Yusuf Pathan, and I were returning from dinner when some mud splashed onto a man named Shoaib,” said Salman. “We stopped the car and apologised but Shoaib refused to listen and instead broke our car’s windshield.”

Family Allegedly Attacked While Leaving For Police Station

After the initial confrontation, the victims allegedly got out of the car and prepared to go to the police station. However, the situation took a more serious turn when they were allegedly attacked by a larger group.

Salman claimed that when they were taking his brother to the hospital, several men armed with weapons suddenly emerged and assaulted them.

“When my father and I were taking my brother to the hospital, a group of eight to nine men, armed with weapons, emerged and began attacking us. They assaulted the three of us.”

Khalid Pathan and Shoaib Khan have been accused of attacking the family with bamboo sticks and a baseball bat. The complainants have also alleged that the accused issued death threats before fleeing from the spot.

Victims Injured, CCTV Footage Captures The Incident

The assault left three members of the family injured. Salman reportedly suffered a fractured hand, and doctors have said the injury could take nearly a year to heal.

The injured are currently undergoing treatment at JJ Hospital in Mumbai.

The incident, which took place on Saturday, was also captured on CCTV, which is expected to form a key part of the police investigation.

Three Arrested, Counter-FIR Also Filed

In his complaint, Salman named four accused: Khalid Pathan, Shoaib Khan, Umarshad Khan and Shehbaz Pathan.

Police have so far arrested Khalid Pathan, Shoaib Khan and Umarshad Khan on charges of assault and causing grievous hurt. The three accused were produced before a court and have been remanded to judicial custody till May 2, while Shehbaz Pathan remains absconding.

Meanwhile, Umarshad Khan has also filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the victims at the same police station where he and his father were arrested. No arrests have been made so far in connection with the counter-complaint.
