Raksha Bandhan took an unusual turn on Friday when Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke shared pictures of himself wearing a cockroach-shaped Rakhi.

Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), marked Raksha Bandhan with a cockroach-shaped Rakhi, symbolizing the group’s youth activism and protests regarding the NEET exam. The Rakhi referenced CJI Surya Kant’s remark and bore the message “Rakhi aur isteefa mubarak,” linked to demands for Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation as Education Minister.

The unusual Rakhi, matching the organisation’s distinctive symbol, quickly stood out on social media. Dipke also shared a close-up photograph of the Rakhi, which carried the message “Rakhi aur isteefa mubarak.”

Dipke posted photographs from his Raksha Bandhan celebrations on social media, showing the cockroach-themed Rakhi tied around his wrist.

The design was a reference to the identity of the CJP, an organisation that has focused much of its activism on youth and education-related issues.

The message written on the Rakhi added a political edge to what is traditionally a family festival.

Who Is Abhijeet Dipke?

Abhijeet Dipke is the founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, which has emerged as a youth-focused political group, particularly vocal on issues surrounding education and competitive examinations.

The organisation gained attention during protests over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination. The CJP organised demonstrations at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and other locations, with the protests continuing for 36 days.

The group linked the end of the protest movement to the resignation of then Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Why Is A Cockroach The CJP Symbol?

The unusual cockroach identity has its roots in a remark made by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant during a court hearing in May.

The CJI had used the term while criticising what he described as increasing and unwarranted attacks on the judiciary and the legal system.

The remark subsequently became associated with the emerging Gen-Z-led movement, and Dipke’s organisation adopted the cockroach as its distinctive symbol.

From NEET Protests To School Reform

Dipke’s Raksha Bandhan post comes against the backdrop of the CJP’s wider campaign on education.

While the cockroach-shaped Rakhi may have been a quirky festival moment, it also reflected the symbol that has become closely associated with Dipke and his organisation’s youth-focused activism.
