After the suspected Jais-e-Mohammed (JeM) operative arrested earlier this week in West Bengal’s Bardhaman had allegedly planned to disrupt the Cockroach Janata Party’s led protest over alleged NEET (UG) examination irregularities at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar according to STF (Special Task Force).
West Bengal’s STF arrested Mohammad Hamim Mondal, a suspected JeM operative linked to Pakistan handlers, who allegedly planned to disrupt a NEET protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and target leaders like CM Suvendu Adhikari. Arpita Sarkar was also arrested, implicated in an alleged honey-trap operation linked to the conspiracy.
Based on the initials reports, Mohammad Hamim Mondal was liked with Pakistan based handlers and was involved in multiple conspiracy plans, including targeting CM Suvendu Adhikari.
Alleged Plan to Disrupt Jantar Mantar Protest
The Kolkata Special Task Force (STF) Inspector General Gaurav Sharma said that the investigators found evidence that Mondol planned to sabotage the student protest held at Jantar Mantar. He intended to obtain a police uniform and use it as part of plan to create disruption during the protest.
Officials also claimed that Mondal was acting under the direction of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), though further investigation is underway to establish the full extent of the alleged links.
Political Leaders Were Also Allegedly on Target
The STF said the investigation has revealed that Mondal was allegedly collecting information related to West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and several BJP leaders.
Investigators suspect he was planning attacks on political figures while simultaneously attempting to build a network for extortion and other illegal activities.
Officials are examining digital evidence recovered from the accused to understand the scale of the alleged conspiracy.
Honey-Trap Angle Under Investigation
Police have also arrested Arpita Sarkar from Sahibganj district in Jharkhand in connection with the case. According to investigators, Sarkar had allegedly been working with Mondal as part of an alleged honey-trap operation aimed at influential political personalities.
The STF said the two had known each other for around four years before entering into a relationship.
Officials are investigating claims that the network intended to collect personal information and allegedly use it for extortion.
One line of investigation involves an alleged conspiracy to target a senior political leader from Howrah and abduct his son after obtaining sensitive information through social media contacts.
How Did He Contact Pakistan?
STF stated that Mondol allegedly communicated with Pakistan based handlers through encrypted messaging platforms, including WhatsApp and Telegram.
Investigators said the initial contact was reportedly established through Instagram before conversations shifted to more secure platforms.
Officials claim the accused was in contact with individuals identified as “Rana,” “Uzair,” “Abid Jatt 333,” and “Hamad,” who are suspected to have links with Pakistan-based terror networks.
