A video of a journalist asking Malayalam actress Priya Prakash why she is wearing a saffron dress has gone viral.
In the video, the journalist appears to give the issue a political colour, but she politely says that she simply likes the colour and that it is her personal choice. However, this has not gone down well with a section of netizens.
Malayalam actress Priya Prakash’s choice to wear saffron led to a journalist questioning her, sparking online debate about the question’s intent and drawing criticism towards the reporter.
Expressing anguish over the journalist’s question, a user wrote, “What a disgraceful question from the reporter. He needs to be banned.” Another user commented, “Some reporters should not be sent to press conferences. Instead, they need strict schooling from their editors.”
A BJP supporter slammed the journalist and said, “Wonder if this apparent journalist would ask any ‘pardha-bibi’ or ‘wolfy-zulfi,’ ‘Why are you wearing green?’ Saffron is questioned, Zafraan is not. Kesariya-does anyone dare?”

Another BJP supporter added, “It is a reflection of the state of society. People are cautious about wearing chandanam on their foreheads because it makes them susceptible to a (communal) hate crime.”
One netizen stated, “There is no religious freedom and no freedom of dress in Kerala.” Criticising the journalist, another netizen commented, “Corrupt, cockroach, sick reporter! It shows his hate-mongering mindset.”
